Confidence in Obedience

One of my friends wrote me a few years back. What he said such a deep impact on me that I printed out his words, stuck em on the front page of my ol journal and went about trying to act accordingly.

"There always comes a time when we are asked to make choices; choices that, when faced with, we might be tempted to look ahead and say, " Well if I choose blank, what if blank happens later? Or "if I choose the other choice, what if what I assume will happen later never actually happens?" When we find ourselves thinking that way... well, we can't. We have to have an eternal perspective of course; but we can't ruin the "now" by tormenting ourselves with " what if's". If something feels right at a particular moment, if the spirit is telling you that it's right, we have to listen right then and there and ignore our uncertainty and our mind's admonitions regarding the future.

If we make the right choices the right way as soon as they are presented to us, we won't have to worry about our futures because by the time we get there we'll be in just the right place.

If we make decisions in the present based on the future we want, by the time we get there we may find that it wasn't the future we wanted after all. We have to be mindful of our plans and of our future, but we must never let plans dominate our decisions. If we act on the spirit as perfectly as we can when he speaks to us, we'll have no need for uncertainty or for questioning- even if we don't understand the basis for the Lord's decision at that point in time. Because in time; the spirit reveals all things."

And that's about all I gotta say about that.
