This week flew by. I feel like my whole mission is just shooting past.
But at the same time- the moments are so drawn out and filled with importance. I just, It's hard to explain but it is so very filling...like bread.
The other day Sister Guynn and I were walking to a "compromisso" (marked visit) and found in a trashcan- a bundle of perfect flowers. Sister Guynn loves flowers. Naturally, we picked em up.
Then we happened to be walking by an elderly lady who looked really bummed. A thought came into our mind! Ok! give her the flowers!
So we did.
A huge, deep smile erupted on her face, she just looked at them, thanked us, and then she was off. Those few seconds really had an effect on me.
Living the gospel is a lot different than learning about the gospel. A part of understanding the principles, means APPLYING the principles. " I am reminded of 1 nefi 16:29.... It is truly through the small and simple things that great things are brought to pass.
For example.
A 19 year old girl in a huge city- with scriptures and the spirit as her tools.
How can that make a difference? just 18 months?
And yet miracles happen, personal miracles, and miracles in others. I have seen the hope of the gospel seep into the lives of those who hear the message. Watching the change that happens when people act, and decide.
There is nothing more fulfilling.
I am humbled to be here in Brazil serving at this time. I have so much to learn, so much still to apply and so much work to do. The Lord is really guiding me and I am certain He is at the forefront of our mission. I am not scared because I know when I do my very best, give all that I have, He makes up the great difference.
Brazil Campinas is becoming a little piece of heaven to me. A lot of hardship, a lot of problems, but a whole lot of hope, joy, peace, understanding, and growth.
You are in my prayers, and I hope that we can all reflect on our lives and see the importance of doing those small and simple things. Praying. Washing the dishes for someone. Reading the scriptures in our family. Enjoying the moments. Forgiving. Being grateful. Planning. and trusting. I am convinced that those little things build up to make a happy and successful life.
I LOVE YOU
-Sister Mitchell
